Cyprus Approves Bills for Breastfeeding Rooms
The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus has approved two important bills from the Ministry of Health related to breastfeeding.
Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas stated that these bills are part of a new national strategy aimed at safeguarding, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding across the island.
“These legislative measures represent a crucial step forward in strengthening support for breastfeeding mothers and ensuring their rights both in the workplace and in public spaces,” the Minister explained.
The bills focus on the establishment and regulation of breastfeeding rooms in workplaces, setting clear guidelines for the minimum standards required for such spaces.
Additionally, the bills outline the creation of breastfeeding or milk expression rooms in public places like hospitals, airports, shopping centers, and other government facilities.
This will make it easier for breastfeeding mothers to access appropriate spaces and ensure their right to breastfeed or express milk when visiting government offices or other public venues.
“This commitment will reinforce the importance of motherhood in Cyprus and provide vital protection for both mothers and their children,” Minister Hadjipantelas emphasized.
The bills are now set to be presented to the House of Representatives for further discussion, following which they will undergo revisions as necessary.
