The Cyprus Veterinary Services have decided to suspend the operations of 11 livestock farms in the Pergamos area.

According to Senior Veterinary Inspector Apostolos Maserisi, authorities are investigating whether the farms complied with all legal requirements.

These are holdings that hold a Cypriot registration code but operate within the buffer zone and on the territory of the Dhekelia British Bases. The decision affects eight cattle farms and three sheep farms that previously supplied milk to three dairies.

Authorities are also seeking to prevent milk supplies to dairies from an additional 13 farms located in the buffer zone and British Bases.

According to the veterinary services, 29,731 animals have already been culled as part of the disease control measures. 49 herds have been identified as infected, of which 46 are in Larnaca and three in Nicosia.

To date, a total of 28,019 sheep and goats and 1,712 cattle have been culled. Approximately 240 more small livestock and 150 cows are expected to be culled in the near future.
