Ongoing Wave of "Bomb Threats" in Cyprus: Unknown Sources Report Bomb at American Academy Limassol
Cyprus continues to experience a wave of bomb threats targeting various public institutions. According to reports, a bomb threat was received today concerning the American Academy in Limassol. The school has been evacuated.
This follows a series of threatening emails sent the previous evening, warning of bombs in hotels and hospitals. The perpetrators demanded a ransom in euros and cryptocurrency, threatening to detonate explosive devices if their demands were not met. Specifically, bomb threats were reported at a hospital and two hotels in Nicosia and Limassol. All three locations notified the police, and bomb disposal experts who arrived on the scene found no suspicious objects.
The police cybercrime unit, with the assistance of Interpol, has taken over the investigation.
Authorities have determined that the threatening emails originated from users in a non-EU third country.
Speaking on the ALPHA News program, Maria Pentaliotou, an officer with the Cybercrime Unit, confirmed that the content of all the threats was identical.
