Investigation launched in Cyprus into the death of a pony at a Christmas event

The Cyprus Animal Protection Party has filed an official complaint regarding the death of a pony during Christmas events in one of the island’s communities. The case concerns events held on December 12–13, when, by decision of the local council, two ponies were brought in for the festive program. One of them died shortly afterwards.
According to animal rights activists, the cause of the animal’s death may have been hypothermia or improper feeding. It is also claimed that after the pony’s death mandatory procedures were not followed: there was no inspection of the conditions in which it was kept, no permits were requested, and the animal itself was buried or disposed of without the involvement of the competent authorities.
The Animal Protection Party called on the police, veterinary services and the Prasteio Kellakiou community council to immediately conduct an investigation, establish the responsibility of the organizers and provide a legal assessment of what happened. Party representatives stated that they would monitor the progress of the case and inform the public about its development.
