During the New Year holidays, Cyprus has seen a rise in cases of Influenza A. Medical facilities and pharmacies are running low on antiviral medications.

This was shared by Mary Avraamidu, Vice President of the Society of Family and Personal Doctors, during an appearance on the Alpha Kalimera show.

According to Avraamidu, Influenza A typically begins to spread in mid-December and reaches its peak over the holidays. Doctors explain this trend by noting that this strain of flu is transmitted similarly to the coronavirus. The number of cases increases during holidays and weekends when families come together.

Avraamidu also noted that this year, the flu has caused a particularly severe wave of illness.
Symptoms include high fever, headaches, fatigue, sore throat, and cough.

Additionally, Riana Konstantinou, Head of the Ambulance Service, mentioned that, in addition to Influenza A, there has been a rise in heart attacks and falls among the elderly during the holiday period in Cyprus.
