Crime rate is increasing in Cyprus: police are enhancing patrols in every district
The Republic of Cyprus Police is implementing a plan to strengthen street patrols in all areas of the country. The crime rate is rising across the board: special police patrols are responding to calls in all provinces.
According to local media reports, the increase in crime prompts law enforcement agencies to organize special patrols that will focus exclusively on burglaries, vehicle thefts, and thefts at enterprises.
According to the police, considering the crime trends in areas where there is an increase in offenses, police department chiefs are developing various plans to prevent such offenses as theft and burglary, which, according to weekly reports, have become commonplace in the country.
Just this past weekend, the police responded to two knife attacks. One of them involved a Russian woman.
According to the police, the day before, a 28-year-old suspect allegedly broke into the apartment of a 46-year-old man and instigated a conflict over financial disagreements. At the time, a 36-year-old Russian citizen was also in the apartment, attempting to defuse the argument.
The suspect attacked the 36-year-old woman, inflicting minor bruises and abrasions on various parts of her body. Two hours later, the police noticed the assailant walking with a knife in one of the districts of Nicosia. The victim of the attack, a 46-year-old man, is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
The second stabbing incident occurred in Paphos. According to preliminary data, a 23-year-old man was allegedly attacked by his former father-in-law. The attack occurred when the young man came to talk to his ex-wife. The 53-year-old man pulled out a knife and wounded him. The injured man was hospitalized in the city hospital, and the attacker was arrested.
