Ski season starts in Cyprus
On February 1st, the ski season for the 2023/2024 season opens in Cyprus. According to the meteorology department, due to heavy snowfall, the snow depth on Troodos reached 27 centimeters, and on Mount Olympus - 35 cm.
According to local media, on Thursday, February 1st, three ski slopes and lifts nearby will operate in Cyprus. All slopes will be prepared in advance for use with specialized equipment. The ski lifts will operate from 10:00 to 16:00.
Operating lifts:
Sun Valley I ("Aphrodite")
Sun Valley II ("Hermes")
Sun Valley BABY (children's slope)
The lifts North Face I (Dias),
Family run, and North Face II (Hera) remain closed.
The Nicosia Ski Club also reminds that all lifts have new "smart gates," so starting this year, all ski passes will be chip cards and can only be issued at the Troodos ticket offices (Sun Valley & North Face). Upon receiving a chip card, a deposit of €3.00 will be required, which will be refunded upon return of the card.
It is worth noting that according to meteorologists, the powerful anticyclone "Avgi" that has been affecting Cyprus in recent days has begun to weaken. Today and in the Troodos mountains, snow is still possible; however, next week the snow cover may begin to melt.
Additionally, according to the police, as of yesterday evening, many mountain roads were closed to traffic. Some roads leading to Troodos are accessible only to four-wheel-drive vehicles and vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains.
