Spike in Online Shopping Scams Reported in Cyprus
Authorities in the Republic of Cyprus have issued a warning about an increase in online shopping scams, with fraudsters impersonating Postal Services Department employees to deceive the public.
According to the department, users are receiving SMS messages on their mobile phones, falsely claiming to be from the Postal Services Department, which allege “delivery issues” or state an “inability to deliver a package.”
Citizens are advised to exercise caution to avoid falling victim to these scams, no matter how credible the messages or the sender may appear.
Authorities emphasize checking payment methods carefully; legitimate payments should be directed through the JCCSmart online payment platform, not via an email address or any website other than the official Postal Services Department site.
The department has also shared an example of a typical scam message to help the public recognize fraudulent content.
