The United Arab Emirates will provide Cyprus with mobile desalination units to help meet the country’s water supply needs in 2025. These units will be capable of producing 15,000 cubic meters of water per day. Preparations for their installation and immediate operation are already underway.

Andreas Grigoriou, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, explained on Alpha Update that while the exact number of units has not yet been finalized, they are expected to be deployed in Paphos and Limassol. The units have already been assembled and will be shipped to Cyprus by sea, ready to be connected to the power grid for quick deployment.

The decision to bring in the units was made "at the highest level" by the President of the Republic himself. Grigoriou emphasized that this is a purely political decision and not influenced by any private interests.

Meanwhile, the relevant authorities are working intensively on both mid- and long-term plans to tackle the ongoing drought. A public awareness campaign on water conservation is also being rolled out to encourage more responsible water use.
