Cyprus tightens rules for electric scooters
The Parliament of Cyprus has approved new regulations for the use of electric scooters aimed at improving safety.
According to the changes, the minimum age for operating scooters has been increased from 14 to 17 years. Additionally, devices must now comply with European safety standards and possess appropriate certification.
One of the key innovations is that police now have the right to seize scooters on the spot in the event of violations.
At the same time, a proposal for a total ban on e-scooters was rejected. MPs noted that the problem lies not so much with the devices themselves, but with the lack of infrastructure and enforcement.
Proponents of the new rules emphasized that scooters remains an affordable and eco-friendly mode of transport, and excessive restrictions could negatively impact the development of urban mobility.
