Elderly Couple Tragically Dies in New Year’s Eve Fire in Cyprus
A devastating fire in Polemidia, Cyprus, claimed the lives of an elderly couple on New Year’s Eve.
According to police reports, the fire started shortly before midnight in the living room of their home. At the time, 73-year-old Evangelos Vasiliou, his 80-year-old wife Pantelitsa Vasiliou, and their 19-year-old housemaid were asleep in their bedrooms.
The young housemaid managed to escape the burning house and screamed for help. Firefighters and police quickly arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished, and police officers entered the home to search for the elderly couple.
Tragically, their lives could not be saved. Evangelos Vasiliou was found dead inside the house, while his wife Pantelitsa was rushed to the emergency department at Limassol General Hospital. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
It was later revealed that the couple’s son, who also lived in the house, was not present during the tragedy. Earlier that evening, another family member had taken him to the hospital due to chest pain.
After the fire was completely extinguished, police cordoned off the area. The exact causes of death will be determined through autopsies.
