Fines of €8,250 issued in Cyprus for illegal passenger transport
Cypriot authorities conducted intensive inspections of carriers between March 16 and 22 in Nicosia and Larnaca to identify cases of illegal passenger transportation.
According to the Road Transport Department, 120 vehicles were inspected in Nicosia, including taxis, urban, and intercity cars. As a result, 14 drivers were held accountable for various violations.
Additionally, on March 20, targeted inspections of eight private cars took place at Larnaca Airport. Following the inspection, three fines totaling €8,250 were issued to two drivers and one company.
The department emphasized that illegal transportation by private cars is often carried out without the necessary license and insurance coverage, which can pose risks to passengers.
The Department urged residents and tourists to use only licensed taxis with taximeters and to report suspicious cases of illegal transportation to the authorities.
