Suspect Arrested in Cyprus for Stealing Police Vehicle
Police have arrested a man suspected of stealing a police service vehicle, which occurred yesterday in the Sopaz area of Aradippou (Larnaca).
According to law enforcement, the incident took place around 01:00. An unknown man got into a police van, which was being used for patrols as part of measures to control the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, and drove away in it.
A police officer, who was nearby in his private vehicle, noticed the incident and began a pursuit. The chase ended in a dead end in Larnaca, where the suspect abandoned the vehicle at the entrance of a residential building and fled on foot.
The suspect was later identified and detained. He has already provided explanations, which are currently being verified by the investigation.
Meanwhile, the police officer who was on duty at the time of the incident has been temporarily suspended from work. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the event.
