Suspect in Supplying Weapons to Hamas Detained in Cyprus
A man was detained at Larnaca Airport under a European arrest warrant issued by Germany. He is suspected of involvement in supplying weapons to the Palestinian group Hamas.
According to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office of Germany, the suspect was detained on Friday upon his arrival in Cyprus from Lebanon. German law enforcement authorities later conducted a search of his apartment in Berlin.
Investigators believe the man helped supply ammunition to Hamas members. According to the prosecutor's office, he provided approximately 300 live rounds to a member of the group through an intermediary.
The investigation is part of a broader operation launched in 2025. According to investigators, the weapons may have been intended for potential attacks on Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany and Europe.
The detainee is expected to be extradited to Germany, where his case will be heard by the Federal Court in Karlsruhe. A decision on pretrial measures will be made after the suspect is handed over to German authorities.
