A rare tornado recorded in the Ayios Trimithias area of Cyprus
A rare natural phenomenon for the island — a tornado — was recorded in the Ayios Trimithias area of Cyprus. The unusual event occurred the day before and attracted great interest among locals, since such weather conditions are practically uncharacteristic for the region.
According to eyewitnesses, a powerful funnel formed in the sky above the settlement, moving over the ground, lifting dust and small objects. Fortunately, no reports of damage or casualties were received. Residents noted strong winds and a noticeable drop in temperature at the moment the tornado passed.

One of the locals filmed the tornado and posted the recording on social media. The footage quickly spread among users, sparking lively discussions and hundreds of comments. Many noted that such phenomena are extremely rare in Cyprus. The island usually experiences heavy rains and stormy winds, but not such pronounced atmospheric funnels.
Meteorologists explained that the tornado may have formed as a result of a sharp temperature drop and unstable atmospheric conditions observed these days. Specialists continue to analyze the data to determine the causes of this weather phenomenon and to assess the likelihood of similar events occurring in the future.
Forecasters remind that autumn in Cyprus is often marked by unstable weather with showers and thunderstorms. However, the appearance of a tornado remains an exceptional rarity and draws special attention from both experts and the public.
