Cyprus has experienced the hottest July on record
The Department of Meteorology of the Republic of Cyprus reports that July 2024 was the hottest July ever recorded. Average minimum and maximum temperatures in July exceeded the norm at all monitoring stations.
According to the published data, July 2024 turned out to be the hottest month on record since climate data for the island began to be collected, except for mountainous areas. At all coastal and inland reference stations of the meteorological bureau, temperatures exceeded the norm by 2.5–3.6 °C.
Regarding the total amount of precipitation, preliminary data indicate that July in Cyprus received 3.9 mm of rainfall, or 163% of the monthly norm.
As for August, "normal temperatures" are expected. A similar situation is apparently prevailing in Greece and the Balkans, where temperatures are expected to be above normal. In the Near and Middle East, forecasters predict below-normal temperatures.
Regarding precipitation, it is expected that in August, it will be "within the norm in inland areas, above the norm for this season in the north and west, and below the norm in the south and east".
