Digital Citizen App Launches in Cyprus
Cyprus has introduced a new application, Digital Citizen, marking the start of a “new era” in digital services for residents and businesses. The app is now available for download on both Google Play and the App Store.
President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted that the app allows users to issue and store official documents, such as ID cards, driver’s licenses, and vehicle inspection certificates. More types of documents will be added soon.
The app aims to simplify procedures, removing the need for citizens to carry paper copies of their documents.
“A new era has begun: easy, simple, digital,” the president declared.
The Deputy Minister of Digital Policy emphasized that documents issued through the app are valid for official use within Cyprus. However, they cannot be used as international travel documents. To create a digital copy, users must first obtain a printed version of the document.
The deputy minister called on all organizations to begin accepting electronic documents immediately, as this will soon become mandatory.
To access the app, users require an active and certified CY Login profile, which ensures secure access to government systems and services.
The authenticity of digital documents can be verified easily by scanning the QR code displayed on them.
The official presentation of the Digital Citizen app and other related tools will take place on December 12.
