Roads to Be Closed in Limassol and Paphos for Tsiknopempti Celebrations
On Thursday, February 20, major roads in Paphos and Limassol will be closed to traffic due to Tsiknopempti celebrations and events for the 2025 Carnival.
Traffic restrictions will be enforced by municipal authorities, while police will take measures to ensure public safety and regulate the flow of vehicles during the festivities.
In Paphos, starting at 16:30, Griva Digeni Avenue will be partially closed from its intersection with Odysseas Androutsos Street. Restrictions will also be in place at Kennedy Square and Evagoras Pallikarides Avenue.
In Limassol, from 14:30 until midnight, a section of Anexartisias Street will be closed from the intersection with Gladstonos Street to the intersection with Andrea Themistocleous Street.
Tsiknopempti (Τσικνοπέμπτη) is a popular Greek tradition celebrated on the Thursday before the start of Lent. Also known as "Smoky Thursday" or "Meat Thursday," the day is dedicated to feasting on grilled meat. Many people celebrate by wearing carnival costumes and enjoying festivities.
Earlier, it was announced that Limassol Municipality had postponed all scheduled events for the Limassol Carnival on Saturday, February 22, out of respect for the funeral of a family of five who tragically lost their lives in a fire last weekend.
