First Flamingos Arrive at Larnaca Salt Lakes
The first pink flamingos of the season have arrived at the salt flats of Larnaca, thanks to the unseasonably warm weather. These graceful birds migrate to the island seeking a warmer climate and abundant food sources. This year, the initial group has already found a haven at the Aliki Birdwatching Center.
Experts predict that if sufficient rainfall occurs in the coming weeks, the number of flamingos visiting Cyprus will grow significantly.
Each year, thousands of migratory birds, including flamingos, arrive in Cyprus, with many choosing the Larnaca salt flats as their winter home. Their presence draws attention from locals and international tourists alike, eager to witness this natural spectacle.
Authorities have reminded the public to observe the flamingos from a safe distance. They advise against approaching the birds, entering the salt flats, or flying drones in the area to ensure the safety and well-being of the wildlife.
Visitors can enjoy a clear view of the flamingos from the Aliki Observatory in Larnaca.
