Night raids across Cyprus: Hundreds of checks and dozens of detentions

Last night, the Cyprus police conducted large-scale preventive operations throughout the country, increasing patrols in urban areas. The main objective of these measures was crime prevention, maintaining public order, and improving citizen safety levels.
During the raids, five people were detained on various charges. These included attempted destruction of property using explosives, arson, public insults, breach of public order, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police checked 902 cars containing 1,110 people. Simultaneously, 56 inspections of establishments were carried out, resulting in 25 reports for various violations.
Particular attention was paid to road safety. As a result of the checks, 511 traffic violations were recorded and 26 investigations were initiated. Additionally, 21 vehicles were impounded.
The most frequent violation was speeding, with 217 cases recorded. Furthermore, 15 drivers were found to be under the influence of alcohol and five cases of driving under the influence of drugs were identified. For this purpose, the police conducted 155 alcohol tests and 19 drug tests.
Law enforcement agencies stated that such operations will continue on a regular basis. The increased police presence and targeted checks are aimed at reducing crime rates and ensuring public safety throughout the country.
