New Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreaks in Larnaca: Around 5,000 Animals Infected
Director of Veterinary Services Christodoulos Pipis announced on Sunday evening that new positive cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been identified at three additional livestock farms in the Livadia area.
According to available information, a total of approximately 5,000 animals have been confirmed as infected with the virus.
In response to the situation, a decision has been made to impose a complete ban on the movement of animals throughout the Republic of Cyprus, including transport to slaughterhouses. However, movement to slaughterhouses will only be possible after submitting a formal request and receiving permission from the Veterinary Services.
The possibility of introducing vaccinations is also being considered; a decision will be made depending on the further development of the situation.
Furthermore, each livestock zone will have only one controlled entry point, with others being blocked to prevent unauthorized access.
