New section of Nicosia–Troodos highway opened for traffic
From April 30, a new section of the Nicosia–Troodos highway — from Astromeritis to Evrychou — is opening for traffic. The project was completed on schedule and within the approved budget, the Department of Public Works reported.
This is the fourth phase of the highway construction, which includes a modern four-lane road approximately 11.3 kilometers long. The project cost was 74.5 million euros plus VAT. The work was carried out by the Cybarco–Pharmakas J.V. consortium under the supervision of the relevant department.
Key infrastructure elements were implemented as part of the construction, including an interchange in the Koutrafas area, a roundabout at the route's end point, and a number of engineering structures. One of the most significant objects was a 750-meter-long viaduct.
As noted, the new road is intended to significantly improve transportation accessibility to mountain and rural areas, as well as create additional opportunities for their economic development.
Authorities urge drivers to be particularly careful during the first days of the section's operation, to follow road markings and instructions to ensure traffic safety.
