UN Announces Agenda for Expanded Cyprus Summit in Geneva
The United Nations (UN) has unveiled the agenda for next week’s informal 5+1 summit on the Cyprus issue, set to take place in Geneva. Representatives from both Cypriot communities, along with the three guarantor powers—Greece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom—have been invited to this highly anticipated meeting.
The summit will kick off on Monday, March 17, with a formal dinner at Le Woods restaurant in the Intercontinental Hotel at 6:00 PM Cyprus time (7:00 PM local Geneva time). UN officials will join the dinner alongside the leaders, and before the meal, participants will have the opportunity to take an official photograph with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The restaurant’s menu features Swiss Black Angus fillet, a dish consisting of roasted beef, chanterelle mushrooms with mushroom purée, onion soubise, and potato cappuccino, priced at 52 Swiss francs (€55).
On Tuesday, March 18, the summit will resume at 9:00 AM at the Intercontinental Hotel, where António Guterres will hold a series of bilateral meetings with each delegation.
At 11:30 AM, the talks will shift to an expanded session at the Palais des Nations, the UN headquarters in Geneva. Delegations will be limited to a maximum of six members, with the UN strongly encouraging gender diversity among participants. The high-level discussions are scheduled to conclude at 2:30 PM, followed by statements from António Guterres and the heads of each delegation.
Last week, the UN Secretary-General’s office officially invited the leaders of both Cypriot communities to the informal Geneva conference. The 5+1 format includes the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot representatives, as well as officials from the three guarantor countries: Turkey, Greece, and the United Kingdom.
This Geneva summit is regarded as a pivotal moment in the Cyprus negotiations, marking the first high-level talks on the issue in four and a half years.
