PASINO threatens a strike due to chronic understaffing in Cyprus
On November 25, 2025, the PASINO nurses’ union announced its decision to authorize the board to take immediate measures, including possible strike action if the problem is not resolved. This was reported by Alpha News Cyprus.
The union’s statement notes that “the situation has reached a breaking point” and staff are no longer willing to continue working under exhausting and dangerous conditions. PASINO is calling on OKYPI and all responsible authorities to urgently assume responsibility and implement substantial solutions that will ensure the protection of healthcare workers and the safety of patients across the entire spectrum of public medical services.
The union identifies chronic understaffing as the primary problem, which increases the workload on staff and directly threatens the quality of care. According to PASINO, the crisis affects not only general hospitals, but also ambulance services and specialized institutions, including Athalassa Hospital.
For residents in Cyprus, this means a risk of pressure on emergency and inpatient services and possible delays in receiving medical assistance if collective action escalates.
