Easter Bonfires Trigger 94 Fires Across Cyprus
Easter celebrations in Cyprus led to a busy night for the fire service, which responded to 94 calls related to traditional bonfires known as “lambradjia.”
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis reported that between Saturday noon and Sunday noon, a total of 139 fires were recorded across the island. These included:

42 in the Nicosia district

15 in Limassol

29 in Larnaca

3 in Paphos

2 in Famagusta
In a separate incident, firefighters were also called out in the early hours of the morning to respond to a blaze caused by a lit candle. The emergency call came in at 2:43 AM. Upon arrival, crews found a fire in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment in a residential building. The flames had destroyed kitchen appliances, and the rest of the apartment was filled with smoke. The resident was taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
Earlier, the police had also released a summary of incidents related to Easter festivities around Cyprus.
