From January 2026, pensions in Cyprus will increase only in the basic component by 3.38%, according to data from the Social Insurance Services, EKYSY reports.

According to the organization, the full basic pension will amount to €529.82 per month, the minimum to €450.35, and the social pension to €429.15. No increases will be applied to the supplementary part of the pension.

EKYSY notes that the total monthly increase for pensioners is limited to €14–€17. The organization emphasizes that more than 100,000 elderly people in Cyprus continue to receive pensions ranging from €429 to €1,000 per month, which, in its assessment, is insufficient for a decent standard of living and is being eroded by ongoing inflation.

According to EKYSY’s calculations, the poverty threshold today should exceed €1,000 for a single person and €1,500 per month for a two-person household; this assessment has remained unchanged since 2013.

Ahead of pension reform, EKYSY calls on the government and state authorities to take substantial political decisions for real support and a significant increase in pensions in order to ensure pensioners a dignified standard of living.
