Meat Shops and Supermarkets Inspected in Cyprus Ahead of Easter: Plenty of Products Available!
Ahead of Easter, more than 70 meat shops and supermarkets across Cyprus have undergone inspections. On Holy Thursday, Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou conducted an inspection at various retail outlets in Limassol.
The minister explained that while inspections are carried out throughout the year, they are significantly ramped up during the Easter period to ensure food quality, availability, and sanitary safety.
"Since April 14, the Department of Agriculture has carried out over 70 inspections, with an equivalent number conducted by the Veterinary Services. Our focus is on ensuring both quality and sanitary safety. Where any discrepancies are found, corrective measures are implemented according to the law," the minister shared.
In addition to recommendations, violators face fines, and in some cases, products may be seized.
During her inspection in Limassol, the minister reported two minor discrepancies, which, however, did not raise any major concerns.
The main objective of the inspections is "to ensure that the products served on consumers' festive tables and in their daily meals meet the highest standards of quality and safety."
The inspections revealed that stores have an ample supply of products to meet consumer demand as the holiday approaches.
The minister also highlighted the European "Eat Safe" campaign, which is being run in collaboration with the European Food Safety Authority.
"We encourage citizens to visit the website and learn more about food safety, including proper labeling, appearance, and safe storage and preparation methods," the minister concluded.
