Nearly 17% of Cypriots Struggle to Heat Their Homes
According to Eurostat, the European statistical agency, 16.9% of Cypriots reported difficulties heating their homes in 2023. This is an improvement of 2.3% compared to 2022, when one in five residents on the island struggled to maintain adequate warmth.
Despite this progress, Cyprus ranked sixth among EU countries with the highest percentage of people unable to adequately heat their homes.
Across the European Union, however, the situation has worsened. In 2023, 10.6% of EU citizens faced heating challenges, up by 1.3% from the previous year.
The worst-affected countries include Portugal and Spain, where 20.8% of residents reported difficulties. They are followed by Bulgaria (20.7%), Lithuania (20%), and Greece (19.2%).
Conversely, countries with the fewest reports of heating struggles include Luxembourg (2.1%), Finland (2.6%), Slovenia (3.6%), Austria (3.9%), and Estonia (4.1%).
