Over 3,000 domestic violence cases have been initiated in Cyprus over 4 years
Justice Minister Charciotis stated that from 2021 to April 2025, 3,230 criminal cases related to violence against women and children were initiated in Southern Cyprus.
Based on data presented to parliament by Greece’s Justice Minister Marios Charciotis in response to a related question, the newspaper Politis wrote that from 2021, when a domestic violence unit was created in the police, until April 2025, a total of 3,230 criminal cases were initiated.
It is reported that in 2021, out of 1,298 crimes, 819 were solved; in 2022, out of 1,304 crimes, 755; in 2023, out of 1,250 crimes, 670; in 2024, out of 1,300 crimes, 703; and from January 1 to April 30, 2025, out of 386 crimes, 283 were solved.
The newspaper also reported that between 2014 and 2024, 41 women were murdered.
