Under Limassol, a Major Forest Fire Rages
The fire services of the Republic of Cyprus are battling a large forest fire in Ayios Silas. Firefighting efforts are hindered due to strong winds.
According to emergency services, the fire in the Ayios Silas area started today after lunch, around 13:30.
As per the latest information, 10 fire engines from Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and Nicosia, along with two brigades from the Forestry Department, as well as two bulldozers, an excavator, and a heavy truck from the district administration, have been deployed to extinguish the fire.
Assistance in firefighting is provided by fire teams from organized volunteer groups including Support Cy, Kitas Weather, ETEA, and SOS.
Moreover, both helicopters from the British bases are involved. Firefighters are exerting efforts to protect people's property from the fire.
