Cyprus police tighten road controls over the holiday weekend
The Cyprus Police announced the introduction of enhanced security measures for the three-day weekend linked to the Kataklysmos holiday. Law enforcement officers will focus primarily on ensuring public safety and preventing road traffic accidents.
According to police, the number of patrols on highways, intercity roads and the country’s main transport arteries will be increased, including traffic police officers. Additional units have been deployed to monitor the traffic situation, regulate movement and assist motorists.
Particular attention will be paid to identifying violations that most often lead to serious and fatal crashes. These include above all speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as other dangerous violations of traffic rules.
Police note that a significant increase in traffic is expected during the holiday days, as thousands of residents and visitors to the island will head out for leisure and festive events.
In this regard, drivers are urged to exercise extra caution, obey speed limits and traffic signs, and follow the instructions of police officers. Law enforcement authorities emphasize that compliance with traffic rules remains the key factor in road safety.
The enhanced measures will remain in effect throughout the entire holiday weekend and will cover the main tourist destinations and the busiest sections of the country’s road network.
