Police Stop 953 Vehicles and Arrest 12 People in Night Raids in Cyprus
Police in Cyprus conducted targeted night operations across the island on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, resulting in 953 vehicles being stopped and 12 people being detained, authorities reported.
During the checks, officers inspected 1,276 individuals found in the vehicles. 24 premises were checked, and three citations were issued following the inspections.
A total of 650 traffic violations were recorded, including 141 cases of speeding. In preliminary tests, two drivers tested positive for drugs and one for alcohol. Police initiated 22 new traffic-related investigations and confiscated 20 vehicles.
Those detained are accused of theft, drug possession, possession of bladed weapons, domestic violence, and illegal stay, police indicated.
According to law enforcement agencies, the operations are part of ongoing measures to prevent crime and maintain public order in Cyprus.
