Police Investigate Kidnapping of Indian Citizen
The Cyprus Police reported today, August 21, 2025, a shocking incident: an 18-year-old Indian citizen was kidnapped and held for a whole week in the apartment of his compatriots in Famagusta.
It was revealed that on August 13, the young man was seized by his compatriots. He was held hostage — locked in a room where he was brutally beaten and regularly extorted for money over seven days.
Finally, on August 19, the young man managed to escape. Without hesitation, he immediately contacted the police. On August 20, law enforcement officers arrested four suspects aged 33, 22, 21, and 20. They were charged with multiple offenses: assault, kidnapping, causing grievous bodily harm, threats, and extortion.
During a search of the apartment, police found not only the victim and the kidnappers but also two other young men aged 23 and 19. It was discovered that they were on the island illegally. Authorities also found marijuana and a device for its consumption — a bong. One of the arrested men, a 33-year-old, confirmed that the drugs belonged to him.
The police investigation is ongoing.
