Attempt to smuggle drugs into prison: man detained at the entrance

In Cyprus, police prevented an attempt to illegally transfer narcotic substances into a correctional facility. A man was detained at the prison entrance after security staff noticed a suspicious sheet of paper.
During the inspection, it was established that the paper had been impregnated with a narcotic substance. This method is used for the covert transfer of prohibited substances to inmates, as visually the sheet may appear ordinary.
The suspect was immediately detained, and the seized material was sent for forensic examination. An investigation is underway to determine the origin of the drugs and possible links between the detainee and individuals serving sentences.
Law enforcement authorities emphasize that such smuggling methods are being detected more frequently, and control measures in prisons continue to be strengthened.
