After the rains in Paphos, the dams were barely replenished — the water went into the ground

The recent heavy rains in the Paphos region did not bring any significant inflow to local reservoirs, despite serious flooding, especially in the Polis Chrysochous area. This was reported by the district engineer of the Paphos Water Department, Haris Kasioulis.
According to him, the rainfall of the last three days was “very beneficial for agriculture”, as most of the water was absorbed into the soil. Only after the ground becomes saturated with moisture will subsequent rains be able to provide real inflow into the dams.
Kasioulis noted that at the region’s main reservoirs — Arakapas, Evretou, Pomos and the small Ayia Marina Chrysochous reservoir — no significant inflow has been recorded so far. Meanwhile, in the affected areas of Polis Chrysochous, water continues to be pumped out of flooded basements, and the damage is estimated at tens of thousands of euros.
