Cyprus opposition demands foot-and-mouth disease plan and resignation of Agriculture Minister
The opposition party Democratic Rally (DISY) has accused the Cyprus government of ineffective management of the crisis related to the spread of Foot-and-mouth disease.
In a party statement, it is claimed that the authorities failed in prevention, were unable to stop the spread of the disease, and poorly handled the crisis management. According to the opposition, this has already caused serious damage to farmers, the economy, and society.
Party chairwoman Annita Demetriou had also previously called for the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture, stating that the situation has spiraled out of control.
In response, government spokesperson Viktor Papadopoulos criticized the opposition's stance, sparking a new round of political conflict.
DISY emphasized that the government must end the information chaos and urgently present a clear crisis management plan.
