Apartment fire in Larnaca: eight people hospitalized
The fire occurred on January 24, 2026, in one of the apartments of a two-storey residential building in Larnaca. According to the Fire Service, the blaze started in a room of the apartment. Two fire crews were dispatched to the scene.
At the time of the incident, three family members, including a small child, were inside the apartment. They managed to leave the premises immediately after discovering the fire. The apartment sustained significant damage, and smoke and hot gases spread through the stairwell, affecting apartments on the upper floors.
Eight people, including two young children, were evacuated and transported by ambulance to the emergency department of Larnaca General Hospital with symptoms of smoke inhalation and breathing difficulties.
The fire was extinguished using water hoses and breathing apparatus. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire may have been a malfunction of an electric light fixture. Official conclusions from the Electromechanical Service are expected. Larnaca police are conducting an investigation.
