Fire in Sarama: warehouse severely damaged, owner hospitalized
A fire broke out on Saturday at 15:55 in the community of Sarama in the Paphos district of Cyprus. The Fire Service responded to a blaze in a warehouse located next to a greenhouse.
According to the Fire Service, firefighters responded to 34 incidents across the island within 24 hours, 24 of which were fires and 10 were special calls, said service spokesperson Andreas Kettis.
The warehouse, constructed of corrugated metal and wooden beams, sustained significant damage. The flames destroyed greenhouse equipment, an electric generator, olive oil supplies, fuel, and various storage crates.
The warehouse owner suffered from smoke inhalation. She was given first aid at the scene and then transported by ambulance to Polis Chrysochous Hospital for precautionary examination.
Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene. A preliminary investigation by the Fire Service indicated that the fire started due to intentional waste burning that got out of control and spread to the warehouse.
