The Fire Service responded to 44 incidents in Cyprus within 24 hours
Over the past 24 hours, the Fire Service responded to 44 incidents in Cyprus, of which 32 were fires and 12 were special operations, according to the press service of the department.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andrea Ketty, at 12:47 yesterday, Limassol district units deployed six fully equipped fire engines, supported by an additional nine fire engines and two bulldozers from the Department of Forests. The fire covered an area of about five acres of dry grass and wild vegetation in a remote rural area between the communities of Gerovasa and Dora in the Limassol district.
To extinguish the fire, water hoses with extensions were used to reach difficult areas. Rekindlings that occurred during the extinguishing process were contained by the teams working on site. Firefighters remained on scene on standby throughout the night.
The causes of the fire are being investigated in cooperation with the Police. For residents of the region, this means the need to exercise extreme caution when handling fire and to follow the instructions of emergency services.
