Prime Minister of the Netherlands called Nikos Christodoulides' visit "historic"
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, called the visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, "historic". The arrival of the Cypriot leader coincided with the 20th anniversary of Cyprus' accession to the European Union.
On the eve, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, held talks.
According to the Dutch Prime Minister, the Netherlands and Cyprus share common views and close cooperation in areas such as the economy, defense, migration, regional stability, and issues related to the European agenda.
Mark Rutte thanked Nikos Christodoulides for the assistance provided by Cyprus in evacuating Dutch citizens during the conflict in the Gaza Strip. He also emphasized the very important role that Cyprus plays in the region and said that this underscores the importance of its initiative to create a maritime corridor to provide assistance to Gaza.
In turn, Nikos Christodoulides noted that it has been 34 years since a President of Cyprus last visited the Netherlands.
"We have excellent bilateral relations, we agree on important issues, both at the EU level and internationally," emphasized the Cypriot leader.
Regarding the Middle East issue, Nikos Christodoulides emphasized that Cyprus, as the EU member state closest to the region, is doing everything possible to help address the humanitarian crisis.
Earlier, President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, met with King Willem-Alexander at the Huis ten Bosch Palace.
