Union Urges British Bases in Cyprus to Move Employees to Remote Work
The Cyprus Public Service Officers Association has called on the administration of the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) to immediately transition part of its staff to remote work amid growing regional tensions.
A formal letter was sent to the Deputy Commander of the SBA Administration, Stephen Duggan, via the union's General Secretary, Stratis Matthaiou.
The union reported that a decision to evacuate staff has already been made at the Akrotiri base, which is currently operating with only essential security personnel.
However, similar instructions have not yet been issued for the bases in Episkopi, Dhekelia, and Ayios Nikolaos. According to union representatives, this is causing serious concern among employees regarding their safety.
The union emphasized that under heightened threat levels, remote work for employees whose duties allow it could reduce risks and demonstrate the administration's responsible approach to personnel safety.
