Russians Living in Cyprus to Celebrate May 9th – Victory Day: Celebration Program

Russians residing in Cyprus will celebrate Victory Day on May 9th. The detailed program of the celebration was published by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Cyprus.

The solemn events have already begun: Russian compatriots and local residents on the island participated in the "Dictation of Victory." The international action took place at two venues: on April 26th, the event was held at the E.M. Primakov General Education School at the Russian Embassy in Cyprus, and on April 27th, individuals could test their knowledge of the Great Patriotic War at the Russian Center for Science and Culture.

This year, the task variant for Cyprus contained 5 questions about the participation of Cypriots in World War II.

The tasks were also translated into Greek, allowing Cypriots interested in the history of World War II but not proficient in the Russian language to participate in the dictation. It is also noted that the tasks of the international action "Dictation of Victory" were translated into 8 languages.

The celebration program of Victory Day in Cyprus will continue with the "Low Bow to You, Heroes" campaign, which will take place on May 7th at 10:00 in Limassol. The program includes congratulations to Cypriot veterans of World War II and the transfer of a part of the Eternal Flame from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

On May 8th at 18:00, a commemorative event will be held in Larnaca at the Monument to the Fallen during World War II in the square near the Faneromeni Church. The program includes a flower-laying ceremony and the transfer of a part of the Eternal Flame, as well as solemn speeches with the participation of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Yan Osin.

On May 9th, an all-Cyprus action "Victory Day" will take place across the island.

In Nicosia, the general assembly is scheduled for 13:45 – 14:15 at the parking lot of the Ministry of Interior opposite the PASIDI building on Dimostheni Severi Street.

At 14:15, the laying of flowers and a part of the Eternal Flame will take place at the World War II memorial opposite the parking lot under the PASIDI building.

At 14:35, the procession of the Nicosia motorcade will begin.

In Paphos, the gathering of cars is scheduled for 13:45 – 14:00 at the Paphos Municipality parking lot.

At 14:15, flowers will be laid at the Memorial, and at 14:30, the departure of the Paphos motorcade will take place.

In Larnaca and the Famagusta province, the general assembly will take place at 13:00 near the Church of St. Lazarus.

From 13:30 to 14:00, a prayer service will be held at the Church of St. Lazarus. At 14:15, the motorcade assembly will take place in the parking lot near the Faneromeni Church. The car procession through Larnaca will take place from 14:30 to 14:45. The departure of the Larnaca motorcade will take place at 15:00.

In Limassol, from 15:00 to 15:15, flowers and a part of the eternal flame will be laid at the Victory Memorial on Heroes Square.

From 16:00 to 16:30, the general assembly of the motorcade will take place in the municipal parking lot of Agios Tychonas.

From 16:30 onwards, the Limassol motorcade will depart. From 17:15 to 17:30, arrival at the Molos parking lot (Cafe Nero).

From 18:00 to 19:00, there will be an Immortal Regiment procession.

At 19:00, a solemn part will take place on the stage, followed by a minute of silence.

From 19:30 to 21:45, a concert of professional and amateur groups from Russia and Cyprus will be held. Performance by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Yan Osin.

At 21:45, a festive fireworks display will take place. Guests of the celebration will also enjoy a fair, field kitchen, various activities, and a presentation of the International Russophile Movement.

This is our common duty and responsibility to those who defended peace and freedom," said the statement of the organizing committee of the event complex "Victory in Cyprus."
