Dust from North Africa persists: high PM10 concentrations recorded in the air
High dust concentrations persist today, Monday, according to data from the ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Department of Labour Inspection.
The official statement notes that the dust contains fine inhalable particles (PM10) that can negatively affect human health. Therefore, the population, especially vulnerable groups — children, the elderly, and patients with chronic diseases — is advised to avoid outdoor activities until the phenomenon ends.
Dust concentration as of 07:00
- Nicosia — 38.5 μg/m³
- Limassol — 102.0 μg/m³
- Larnaca — 85.5 μg/m³
- Paralimni — 76.2 μg/m³
- Paphos — 110.3 μg/m³
- Zygi — 82.1 μg/m³
- Agia Marina Xylatou — 124.3 μg/m³
For reference: according to current legislation, the maximum permissible daily PM10 limit is 50 μg/m³, and in many areas of the country it is significantly exceeded.
Employers are required to assess the risks for employees working outdoors and, if necessary, take organizational and technical protective measures.
Workers are advised to use personal protective equipment.
Air quality is expected to improve after a change in weather conditions.
