The Cyprus Ports Authority, in cooperation with the state, will undertake the separate development of Larnaca's port and marina. This was announced by the Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, Alexis Vafeades, following the presentation of an infrastructure development study.

According to the minister, following the termination of the contract with Kition, the authorities promised to re-evaluate the strategy for these key facilities. The primary goal is to implement projects quickly, sustainably, and with minimal risk to avoid repeating the failures of recent years.

Expert recommendations for the port include modernizing the north pier, deepening the basin to accommodate larger vessels, and upgrading equipment. This is expected to meet the port's needs until 2055.

For the marina, proposals include expanding the northern part of the basin, implementing general improvements, and installing floating docks to increase capacity to 300 vessels. The projected development horizon is approximately 7 years.

The minister emphasized that the projects will be funded by the state through transparent tender procedures. A direct renewal of the contract with Prosperity is not possible due to legal reasons.

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras noted that the city expects not only the modernization of maritime infrastructure but also the full development of the coastal land zone, which is intended to bring new jobs and economic growth.
