Recommendations from the Civil Defense of Cyprus in Connection with the Abnormal Heat: How to Minimize Risks
Due to the yellow warning issued by the Department of Meteorology regarding severe heat across Cyprus, the Civil Defense of Cyprus has published guidelines to protect the health of residents. According to official information, temperatures on the island are rising above 44°C and are expected to remain at this level throughout the week.
Authorities strongly advise minimizing all movement and strenuous physical activity outdoors, avoiding the sun, as well as long walks and running during the daytime. It is recommended to choose light and light-colored clothing, use hats and high-quality sunglasses. It is also important to avoid crowded places.
To prevent overheating, specialists advise consuming light meals rich in fruits and vegetables, drinking more water and natural juices, and refraining from alcoholic beverages and sudden temperature changes. For cooling, it is recommended to use fans or air conditioners. It is noted that people with chronic illnesses should be especially cautious and consult a doctor if necessary.
Particular attention is urged for elderly family members and those in need of care, ensuring comfortable conditions for them during the heat.
Abnormal heat and its associated hazards are regular occurrences in Cyprus during the summer period. Strict adherence to these recommendations will help reduce health risks, especially during periods of extreme temperatures.
