The Republic of Cyprus has simplified the conditions for resettlement in the TRNC

The Government of the Republic of Cyprus has eased the criteria for Greek Cypriots and Maronites wishing to resettle in villages in the northern part of the country. The new conditions affect the villages of Rizokarpason (Dipkarpaz) and Ayia Trias (Sipahi), where Greek Cypriots reside, as well as Karpasha (Karpasia) and Kormakitis (Koruçam), inhabited by Maronites.

Starting from Tuesday, April 30th, the right to resettle in these villages will also be granted to families where one of the spouses is a native of one of these settlements.

The government stated that this relaxation was provided because there are cases of couples who, "due to insurmountable reasons," cannot live together in the north.

At the same time, the number of mandatory overnight stays per week in the resettled villages remains at a minimum of four, but these nights no longer have to be consecutive and can occur on both weekends and weekdays.

Furthermore, the allowance of 240 euros provided to single individuals living in resettled villages will now also be extended to couples over 75 years of age.

Marilena Evangelou, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, stated that the changes "ease professional and family relationships and obligations in the Republic, especially for resettlers who have children attending schools in the Republic."

In total, there are 259 resettlers living in the north.
