The escaped prisoner in Cyprus was caught two hours after the escape
Police caught the escaped prisoner from the Central Prison in Cyprus. It took just two hours to capture the fugitive.
According to media reports, the escaped man was arrested around 15:00 in the Agios Dometios area. During the search of the area, the police noticed him wandering in the forest about 3-4 kilometers away from the prison.
Recall that the escaped prisoner is a suspect in a case involving the possession of drugs of Syrian origin. The escape occurred on Friday around 13:00, shortly after a hearing in the Larnaca court regarding 1.5 kilograms of narcotics.
Preliminary information suggests that after the police van delivered several defendants to the central prison following the court session, the detainees approached the electronic iron gates leading to the checkpoint. At that moment, one of the suspects distracted the prison guards who were escorting the defendants and fled through the main gates of the correctional facility.
It is also reported that it is currently unknown whether the suspect had handcuffs on at the time of the escape, as provided for by the corresponding protocol for transferring detainees to courts.
The police are now investigating under what circumstances the suspect managed to escape custody.
