Family Dispute in Peyia Village Ends in Brutal Murder
Cyprus has been shaken by another brutal murder. The incident stemmed from a family dispute over financial disagreements.
According to the police press service, the tragedy unfolded in Peyia village near Paphos the previous evening around 11:00 PM. The victim, 43-year-old Stylianos Stylianou, was fatally shot in the head during a family gathering, allegedly by his 50-year-old son-in-law from Greece. The victim leaves behind a 22-year-old child.
Reports from Alphanews indicate that the 50-year-old man resides with his wife (the victim's sister) and their underage children in Peyia. The victim's parents and his wife also live in the same house where the murder occurred.
Police suspect the motive behind the murder may have been a confrontation involving the 50-year-old man, his wife, and the victim's sister. It appears that the deceased intervened in the conflict to defend his relative.
After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene but later visited Paphos General Hospital, complaining of bruises on his legs.
Subsequently, the suspect was arrested on a warrant and remanded in custody to assist with the investigation. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
He is expected to appear in court today for a detention hearing.
