A tornado in Avgorou, Cyprus damaged homes and caused power outages
On Tuesday afternoon, November 25, 2025, a tornado hit the community of Avgorou in Cyprus, causing serious material damage to residential buildings and infrastructure, the AKEL branch in Famagusta reported.
Initial assessments indicate significant destruction in several homes. Video footage shows a canopy collapsing onto a parked car.
As a result of the weather event, power supply problems occurred in the areas of Liopetri and Avgorou. According to the spokesperson of the Cyprus Electricity Authority, Christina Papadopoulou, the temporary power failure was resolved within 45 minutes.
According to a representative of the company, crews are currently working on site to restore low-voltage damage and eliminate remaining defects in the power grid.
