Death of Ukrainian Man in Cyprus Ruled as Suicide
A court in Cyprus has released a 63-year-old Ukrainian woman who had been detained on suspicion of murdering her husband. The man’s death, initially treated as suspicious, has now been officially ruled a suicide.
The incident dates back to December 27, when 62-year-old Vitaliy Shostak, also a Ukrainian citizen, was found dead in his apartment in Limassol. Preliminary investigations revealed that shortly before his death, Shostak had argued with his wife. He died from a stab wound to the chest inflicted with a kitchen knife. The woman was arrested as the prime suspect but insisted from the start that her husband had inflicted the wound himself.
After a thorough investigation, authorities concluded that Shostak had taken his own life. The determination was based on DNA analysis and forensic evidence, which found no signs of a struggle on the victim’s body. Police also found no indications of a physical altercation in the apartment.
Following these findings, the court acquitted the 63-year-old woman, who had maintained her innocence throughout the ordeal, and ordered her release.
